Rowan County Public Health Invites Community Input on Opioid Settlement Funding Priorities

Salisbury, NC - Rowan County Public Health is inviting residents to participate in a community survey that will help guide how opioid settlement funds are invested in Rowan County over the coming years.
Through national opioid settlements, Rowan County is expected to receive approximately $28 million in yearly payments that started in 2022 and goes through 2039 to support evidence-based strategies focused on prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and other efforts to address the ongoing impact of the opioid crisis. Community feedback will help ensure these investments address local needs and create meaningful, lasting change.
"People who live and work in Rowan County understand firsthand the challenges facing our community," said Alyssa Harris, Public Health Director at Rowan County Public Health. "This survey gives residents an opportunity to help shape funding priorities and ensure these resources reflect the needs and experiences of those most affected by substance use."
Rowan County Public Health is partnering with Centralina Regional Council to develop a strategic plan for opioid settlement funding. Survey responses, along with input from community partners and stakeholders, will help identify priorities and guide recommendations for future investments.
The opioid epidemic has impacted individuals, families, businesses, healthcare systems, and public safety agencies throughout Rowan County. While progress has been made in expanding services, significant challenges remain.
Survey responses will help Rowan County:
- Identify priorities for opioid settlement funding
- Understand factors contributing to substance use disorders
- Recognize gaps in prevention, treatment, recovery, and support services
- Guide investments with the greatest potential community impact
- Promote effective and responsible use of settlement funds
The survey is open to all Rowan County residents age 18 and older. Responses are anonymous and will be used to inform strategic planning and funding decisions.
Community members can support this effort by:
- Completing the survey
- Encouraging friends, family, and neighbors to participate
- Joining upcoming focus groups focused on prevention, treatment, and recovery strategies
